General Information

What is Miss Michigan High School America?

Miss Michigan Elementary, Jr. High, High School & Collegiate America is the official Michigan preliminary to the National America Pageants. Our program celebrates confidence, leadership, service, academics, and personal growth while providing young women with opportunities to compete for state and national titles.

Who can compete?

Divisions are based on your grade level for the current school year.

• Elementary: Kindergarten–6thGrade

• Jr. High: 7th–8th Grade

• High School: 9th–11th Grade

• Collegiate: 12th Grade through age 27 while attending or planning to attend college, trade school, or graduate school.

Can I compete if I attend school outside Michigan?

Possibly. Please contact the State Director to discuss your individual eligibility.

Pageant Weekend

When is the pageant?

January 22-24, 2027

Friday: Registration & Orientation 

Saturday: Contestant Activities & Rehearsals

Sunday: Interviews & Final Competition

Is there a host hotel?

Yes! An official host hotel with a discounted room block. Information will be given to you with your official 

handbook. 

Do I have to stay at the hotel?

No. Contestants may commute if they live nearby.

Can my family attend?

Absolutely! Family and friends are welcome to attend the final competition.

How is the contestant order chosen?

Contestant numbers will be assigned during Registration.

Interview

What should I wear?

 Jr High, High School & Collegiate divisions... a business dress, sundress, jumpsuit, or suit. No jeans. 

Elementary... Red Soffe shorts and the State Shirt you will receive at registration. 

How long is the interview?

• Elementary: 3 minutes

• Jr. High, High School & Collegiate: 5 minutes

Will there be controversial questions?

No. Interviews focus on getting to know you.

Fashion Runway

What should I wear?

A stylish outfit that reflects your personality, such as:

• Cocktail Dress

• Jumpsuit

• Pantsuit

• Sundress

• High-Low Dress

Are there restrictions?

No denim, hats, props, or flip-flops.

Evening Gown

What type of gown should I wear?

A floor-length, age-appropriate evening gown or prom dress.

Do I need an expensive gown?

Not at all! Many contestants wear prom dresses, borrow gowns, or purchase affordable dresses.

Hair & Makeup

Is professional hair and makeup required?

No.

Can I bring my own stylist?

Yes, in your hotel room. Stylists are not permitted backstage.

There will be make up teams available for competition, they will be announced soon. ​

Rehearsals

Are rehearsals mandatory?

Yes. Attendance is required unless approved by the State Director.

Can parents attend rehearsals?

No. Rehearsals are for contestants and approved staff only.

Awards

Will there be additional awards?

Yes! Awards may include:

Tickets & Photos

How much are spectator tickets?

$25 per person.

Can my family take photos?

Photography is welcome, but flash photography and video recording are not permitted during the show.

Professional photos and videos will be available for purchase.

Miscellaneous

Will I receive my scores?

Yes. Scores will be emailed 48-72 hours following the pageant. 

Can supporters bring signs?

Yes! Please keep signs respectful and avoid blocking the view of other guests.

Will there be People's Choice voting?

Yes! Voting is $2 per vote; (1) senior level winner will receive the Miss Blue Water title.

Are there additional fees?

Optional competitions, People's Choice voting, program ads, and spectator tickets are separate from the registration fee.

Can I compete at Nationals?

Yes! State winners earn the opportunity to represent Michigan at the National America Pageant. Additional national opportunities may also be available for eligible contestants.

Can I compete in other pageant systems during my reign?

Jr. High, High School, and Collegiate Queens are expected to exclusively represent the Miss Michigan High School America Organization throughout their year of service and may not compete in another pageant system during their reign.

Elementary Queens are welcome to compete in other pageant systems while serving as their Miss Michigan Elementary America titleholder.
